Does Anyone Still Run PC/MS/DR-DOS ?
Well, I was just wondering, does anyone here still run DOS other than me? It may not have all that many features (although DR-DOS/OpenDOS do) but it seems to be the most stable thing ever written for the PC, except perhaps the Linux kernel. Plus, it plays all kinds of games that don't work on more "modern" systems.

It's amazing, but there's a real operating system that does multitasking, networking, provides a GUI and runs on a C64. It actually looks pretty cool. Check it out at http://www.sics.se/~adam/contiki/You can see screenshots and get a file suitable for use on your C64 emulator should you wish.

Lets have a sneak peek into the future of desktop computing. Imagine ur browser window being turned up into a desktop of it own, with sub-windows for other stuffs like chatting, browsing, office programs etc...But these things will not be bothering ur hardware resources much(infact not even little). Well such kind of online OS will be machine independent too. All u need is a gadget to connect to net, a screen and a keyboard.Just because net is in fashion these days and that this idea is sounding

Who here's tried out some of the VERY alternative OSes that are out there? By this, I mean, who has used alternative OSesbeyond the Linux/BSD scene on their PC? I know that's it's been something of a hobby for me. I've used BeOS (very cool), Syllable (looking good), AROS (a sweet implementaion of AmigaOS for modern x86 hardware) and I used to do stuff with SkyOS until the people developing it decided to start charging for it. They keep promising that they'll release a free v

I've been looking at the poll above in this section and other Google related posts..thought I would add a new discussion..I used to work at a large European ISP and we have endless meetings for years about ASP( Application Service Providers) and how we could make money from renting application to users of our ISP.Years later..still no one is really making money or taking advantage of the market there is out there.I used to be into Citrix and thought that would eventually win a big market sh

Multilevel Feedback Scheduling Algorithm
before multilevel feedback scheduling algorithm , we used only multilevel scheduling algorithm which was not so flexible, but this one uses separate queue for handling the processes , it automatically adjust the priority of the process. If the priority is high and the process will be alloted to lower priority queue, then automatically it can switch to the higher priority queue .for example, one queue may implement round robin algorithm the other may use first come first serve algorithm , the allo

Old School: Anybody Still Use CP/M ?
Just because I'm curious...Does anyone here still use CP/M?If so, what do you do with it? I've been toying with the idea of putting some CP/M software on a disk and using my CP/M-86 bootdisk to run it, but I have no CP/M software, and don't really know what's good.Or how about this, does anyone here still use anything that predates PC-DOS?

Hello,A few years ago, I heard of an OS in development called ReactOS, designed to be compatible with windows programs. I didn't notice it again until a few months ago, when I downloaded an ISO of it and gave it a try. It didn't work with all windows programs I tried on it, but most worked. Many will wonder why this should be used rather than simply using WINE. Well, Linux was designed to be a clone of UNIX originally, and as such, is not designed to work with windows programs. ReactOS w

JNode (Java New Operating System Design Effort) is an open-source project to create a Java platform operating system. The project has taken the unique direction of creating all the software in Java itself, with the exception of some assembly language to boot and load the system. The JVM compiler (which normally uses just-in-time compilation) is used to build native binaries out of the core Java code. In this way, nearly the entire system is capable of being written in the Java programming langua
